Our new goals needed significant financial planning. We had decided to move out of Canada to pursue our goals. One of the things we wanted to do was to have more adventures, particularly through travel. Travel is costly in Canada, so we needed to take that into account.
When we started to think about moving, we thought of places that had traditionally taken in professionals around the world, particularly in the area of finance, as I am an accountant. We looked into Cayman, Bermuda, Australia. These are great places, but it would be impossible for me to be involved in any kind of microfinance. If I got a job in finance in one of those places, the hours would be long and I would not fulfill my goal of spending more time with my children. Additionally, much of the culture is very similar to Canada’s, especially the consumer based mind-set that I really wanted to get away from.
